oh my GOD
Just because she laughed and responded does not mean that she enjoyed it. I’ve politely laughed off more semi threatening advances than I can count, because when someone, some stranger, mind you, takes it upon themselves to make a rude advance on my body and personal space, I don’t know what else they’re capable of.
Would you catcall a woman if your mom was standing next to you? Why not? Is it because you know that it’s rude to yell at strangers? The next time you think a woman is hot, try an approach other than yelling at her as she walks by. Try and take a moment to think what it might be like for a woman who has not asked for your opinion and has no idea who you are to be put in that position. Check your privilege for one second, and remember that the vast majority of women a) don’t like being catcalled b) don’t enjoy walking alone or at night because of harassment and threats and c) are not going to respond positively to that kind of advance.
Is that really a difficult concept to grasp? You don’t have the rights to do whatever you want to whomever you want whenever you want, no matter what society tells you.
And just because she might not have cared doesn’t mean that every women is the same.
What did you expect her to do? Break down and cry? Run after you? Just because people don’t react negatively doesn’t mean what you did was okay. So she had a sense of humor about it. That doesn’t mean the next woman will.
I think that, as guys, we have no clue what this is like because women don’t catcall us. And while posing that hypothetical to a guy will get you a “heh heh, that would be awesome,” the reality is that if women suddenly became the more aggressive gender and all kinds of women (thin, fat, young, old, attractive, not attractive) started yelling all kinds of shit of varying degrees of creepiness, you probably wouldn’t be so enthusiastic.
It’s not that you’re a villain for doing it. It’s that you don’t yet appreciate why yelling “compliments” at people from your window is not only creepy and weird, but for some women, a real and present threat. Some people respond to creepy and weird with humor, others in ways you’ll never know and, if you did, would make you regret each and every time you’ve done it to a strange woman.
The world is not your buffet of desire. The woman you’re yelling at wasn’t hoping against home that some random drive-by dickwad would tell them they’re hot. You’re not the Robin Hood of self-esteem. You’re just a creep in a car yelling shit nobody wants to hear.
Get over yourself and start respecting an individual’s right to not be disturbed in public.
That doesn’t mean you can’t interact with strangers, but coming onto a strange woman in public who is not inviting you to come on to her creates a hostile environment, considering the risk of violence that women face every day.
Yes, I know, your intentions are good, but she doesn’t know you from Joe Stalker and she certainly doesn’t know your intentions. Understand that, respect that, and make the world better and safer for women, including those you know and love, or may someday love.
You’re not an asshole. You’re a privileged guy who might not be aware of the threats facing women today. Now you are and you have no excuse to continue doing what you are doing.
Trust me, you won’t regret giving up your “right” to shouting at strangers when you meet a woman who has been shouted at herself.
Peace,
Shannon, a dude still working on his privilege
The blog CPC Watch posts information on the deceptive tactics of pro-life Crisis Pregnancy Centers. Their testimonials page has many disturbing examples of…
Disturbing harrassment:
…Seven months later, I got a card in the mail. It said, “Congratulations on Your New Baby!” but it was splattered with red paint or ink. Every year after that, I’d get a Happy Birthday card made for children, except they’re all splattered with red paint. We couldn’t get them to stop legally because there was no proof the Crisis Center was sending them. I finally stopped receiving the cards when I moved out of the state and didn’t leave behind a forwarding address….
Misinformation:
…When I got there, a woman in a white lab coat told me there was a 48 hour waiting period on PlanB. This didn’t seem right to me but I was confused and disparate so I went along with it. I came back two days later and was told that it was too late to take PlanB. They said I might already be pregnant and PlanB could harm the baby….
This is disturbing because it’s actually an attempt at getting a woman pregnant. Plan B (the morning after pill) works as a stronger dose of the birth control pill and can be taken after having unprotected sex. The sooner it is taken, the more effective it is at preventing pregnancy.
Using the “fathers rights” argument about a rapist:
I reluctantly explained that I had not wanted to have sex but that it was forced upon me by the father of my eighth month old son (I completely broke down since this was the first time that I had said it aloud). I was afraid they would want me to report the rape and I was scared for my life at that point and not planning on going to the authorities. But they didn’t even mention it; of course, I was thankful at the time. When my test came back positive and I asked to schedule an abortion they asked me, “What about the father… doesn’t he have a say? This baby is his too.” I felt so sick. I couldn’t believe they would say that… the father? The father was a rapist.
This is something a lot of pro-lifers say that they believe is an exception to the idea that the father should have a say.
There are a lot more.
This is important shit.
This is despicable. They are lying to women and harassing them. Unbelievable.
When you’re reading a book, and something absolutely amazing happens, and you need to take a breather to let the information sink in.

For women, getting angry is socially unacceptable, even when the anger is over violence, discrimination, misogyny, and other forms of oppression. Anger is unacceptable because angry women are women in touch with their passion and power, especially in relation to men, which threatens the entire patriarchal order. It’s unacceptable because it forces men to confront the reality of male privilege and women’s oppression and their involvement in it, even if only as passive beneficiaries. Women’s anger challenges men to acknowledge attempts to trivialize oppression with “I was only kidding.” And women’s anger is unacceptable to men who look to women to take care of them, to prop up their need to feel in control, and to support them in their competition with other men. When women are less than gracious and good-humored about their own oppression, men often feel uncomfortable, embarassed, at a loss, and therefore vulnerable.

if this video is not spread, this woman will die.
if this video is spread, there is a chance justice shall be served.
PLEASE WATCH THIS AND SHARE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY. Do you know all those ads on TV telling you the Gulf Coast is safe? Do you know those BP commercials telling you they care about their employees, that they’ve cleaned up the spill? Well, here’s a video of a woman who was a one of the thousands of clean-up crew members…
Her body is now degenerating rapidly. She’s lost feeling in her right arm, and severe neurological/nerve damage is starting to cause uncontrollable facial twitching. Her fellow clean-up crew friends are dying. This is heartbreaking and will make you sick to your stomach, but we all need to demand the media and government and BP acknowledge the true horror of this situation. This is your opportunity to use the Internet (and Tumblr) to impact the world. Look at the Middle-East, and think how much more powerful we as Internet-users are in America because of our guaranteed access to these digital tools.
If EVERY person on Tumblr who saw this (yes, you) reblogged and posted it on facebook, it will become a huge, national news story.
This is not a “I should reblog because I’ll feel bad if I don’t” sort of thing. This is a serious fucking reblog and I swear to god if none of you reblog it I am going on an unfollowing spree. I don’t care how many followers I fucking lose. She says in the video “They’re gonna let us die.” And she’s right. They are just letting them die. I am so fucking sick of this government and secrets and everything. Fucking reblog.
rjldfdh i saw this a while ago, this is so horrible.

everyone deserves the medical treatment needed to save their lives, the fact that she has kids and she knows she’s going to die because people are to bone idol to help the people who helped them, it’s vile

Eve, who asked that we not reveal her real name or age, spent two years in prison. During her time behind bars she was raped and contracted HIV. Upon release, she was forced to register in the state’s sex offender database. The words “sex offender” now appear on her driver’s license. “I have tried desperately to change my life,” she says, but her status as a sex offender stands in the way of housing and other programs. “When I present my ID for anything,” she says, “the assumption is that you’re a child molester or a rapist. The discrimination is just ongoing and ongoing.” Eve was penalized under Louisiana’s 205-year-old Crime Against Nature statute, a blatantly discriminatory law that legislators have maneuvered to keep on the state’s books for the purpose of turning sex workers into felons. As enforced, the law specifically singles out oral and anal sex for greater punishment for those arrested for prostitution, including requiring those convicted to register as sex offenders in a public database. Advocates say the law has further isolated poor women of color in particular, including those who are forced to trade sex for food or a place to sleep at night.
